USC Support Services Centre

September 6th 2011

As our new school year begins, the Support Service Center is wanting to create a sense of community for all undergraduate students at Western. We have a wish for students to create a sense of ownership over the functioning of the center and lastly we want to create a sense of belonging. Thus, You Belong at Western was established as our inclusive messaging for not only the LGBT community but for all students.

Come hang out with us at the center meet your friends, watch a movie and receive support from your peers.

You belong!

Yours Brandon Williams

Support service center Manager.

Dec 8 Update:

So far the new Centre has been completely repainted and also has a brand new carpet.  Some furniture has been moved down and more is on order to provide you with more space than ever before!  You’ll find more plugs to power your laptop and plans include study cubicles and more tables.

We also have a conference room (which is partly being used for temporary storage for BPC) which will be a designated study space during the day and bookable by the services in the evening.  Plans are also in place for a small kitchen space with a new larger fridge (with freezer!), a new microwave, new coffee machine, kettle, and common supplies such as plates and mugs.  Finally, all of the services common supplies and resources will be organized and made more accessible.

The service Coordinator offices have now also been fully relocated.  PrideWestern can be found in 38B, WIN in 38A and AllyWestern in 38C.

During the winter exam period the Centre will be open most weekdays from 9am-5pm.  The doors automatic lock is not yet installed so the room needs to be opened by the USC daily, this may result in a slight delay opening some days but we will do our best to make sure the space is available to you!  Any time the door is unlocked you are welcome to use the space and all students are always welcome.  We hope the space is a helpful escape for your exam studying and de-stressing!

Nov 29 Update:

As of today, Mon Nov 29, the former Support Services Centre in UCC-258 is closed.  We are officially well underway in the relocation process to UCC-38.  This week we will be moving the furnishing, supplies etc from UCC-258 downstairs to UCC-38.  During this time the Centre will not have regular operating hours and will only be open once the moving has been complete and only when a volunteer is available to monitor the space since the security systems are not yet fully installed.  PrideWestern has also now officially relocated our administrative office to UCC-38B in the new Centre.  Programming scheduled in UCC-258 will be moved so be sure to check the events page for updated locations!

Stay tuned to this page for the latest updates and the operating schedule!
